What do I need to develop stuff for FREESCO?

Since FREESCO doesn't come with the required development tools (it's a router, remember?),  you'll need to configure another PC as development station.
Zipslack 3.9 is the prefered tool for this, because it can be installed (just like freesco) on any FAT partition using existing windoze or DOS OS.

Zipslack comes with all the required tools for compiling stuff for FREESCO. If you want to compile kernels, then you will have to upgrade the kernel source tree too (zipslack 3.9 is using the 2.0.37 kernel and FREESCO is currently using 2.0.38 or better).

This old compiling howto arcticle by Lee Dowling "Ledow" describes the required steps in more details.

I strongly suggest you also download the package script made by Lightning. This tool makes package creation a LOT easier. This script can be found on your local FREESCOSoft mirror.
